Leg 1: Burlington Corridor Road Trip - The Salt Life at Hilton Head Island, SC

Our first stop was Hilton Head Island in South Carolina, where we have family we stayed with for three nights.  Our drive from Tampa to HHI was uneventful, with the exception of the barrage of lovebugs, causing us to make extra stops to clean the windshield so we could see through it!

Our family lives directly on the beach, so it's wonderful to take long, leisurely strolls along the shoreline.  The salt air and sound of the waves soothe the soul.

During our visit, we went to Harbour Town (website), one of the dining, shopping and entertainment areas on the island.  The lighthouse stands tall over the area, with opulent yachts and sailboats just feet from its base.  We wandered around, and had a beautiful sunset dinner at The Quarterdeck restaurant (website).

One day, we rode bikes up the beach to the Sea Pines Beach Club (website), and enjoyed boat drinks outside by the bar.  It's a beautiful place to sit, relax and take in the salt life.

A trip to Hilton Head isn't complete without dining at The Salty Dog Cafe (website), which we did for brunch one day.  It has a view of South Beach, good food and drinks, and live music.  Here's a link to one of their live Webcams:  The Salty Dog Cafe Webcam

Hilton Head was an enjoyable stop, with lots of relaxation, adventure, and some good food and drink.  The sunrises and sunsets aren't so bad either!

Next stop on our road trip:  Gettysburg, PA

Sounds good so far! It has given me the idea that I should put in some material about the people, the attractions and the history of places when I get onto my own blog about travel. Your photos are lovely- maybe you could have said a little more about some of them, eg. the jellyfish. We don't generally see jellyfish like that on the beaches in Australia, only the blue-bottle ones with stingers haning down. Does this jellyfish sting or just feel slimy if you go swimming? I hope you write some more when your busy life permits.
